Roman Krämer

As a photographer Roman is most taken with ‘street photography’ which, given its spontaneous nature, provides the opportunity to build a unique connection in a short time.

Such a connection, bound through invisible threads of trust, is [paradoxically] surface-level yet intensely intimate. The photographer must enter the world of the subject, while the subject in turn must grant access to their world.

It was in 2016, during a trip through Myanmar, that Roman was inspired by the kindness he saw in the people there: in their unabridged willingness to share so much of themselves with complete strangers. Their openness encouraged him to take more and more pictures on the street, and showed him the magic found when we put ourselves into new situations and by extension allow others to do the same. By following this approach, he captures life in the everyday as it really is, raw, struggling, and perfect in its imperfection.

Roman believes it is in these honest daily moments where we witness the spirit of our world. His images are gripping and real, and reflect the light and dark in all of us which we know is true. He takes the fleeting beauty of a passing moment, and graciously suspends it for us in time, so that we too may learn to see the beauty happening all the time, all around us.
